Visa Exemption

In compliance with the new visa exemption regulation issued by the Ministry of Interior dated 26 May 2016, nationals entitled to a 30-days visa exemption (as indicated in the list below) are eligible to enter Thailand without visa through land boarder checkpoints only twice a calendar year. The entering through international airports will not be affected by this regulation.

The implementation of this regulation will start from 31 December 2016. The limitation from this regulation does not apply to Malaysian nationals.

Foreigners who enter Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category and would like to leave and re-enter may only stay for a cumulative duration, which does not exceed 90 days and is within a 6-month period from the date of first entry. (Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon the return to residence country).

Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must provide proof of adequate funding for the duration of stay in Thailand at the port of entry (i.e., traveller’s cheque or cash equivalent to 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family), proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date. Otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained.

Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption only applies to foreigners holding passports issued by the countries listed below. Other travel documents for foreigners issued by these countries are not acceptable.

 

Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival to Thailand

  Remarks:

   - Travelers who enter Thailand under the tourist visa exemption category are allowed to apply for an additional extension at the Immigration Bureau for a period up to 30 days.

   - Temporary passport / provisional passport / emergency passport of nationals who exempted for Tourist Visa Scheme for period of 30 days s accepted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand. However the passport must has validity not less than 6 months upon the return to residence country.

   - National with Bilateral Agreement can only enter Thailand with ordinary passport and the passport must has validity not less than 6 months upon the return to residence country.

 

(a) Tourist Visa with Single Entry

Please kindly note that visa application takes approximately within 5-7 working days after the receipt of completed required documents. Applicant can ONLY personally apply for a visa 3-10 weeks before the travelling date at the counter of Visa Section at Royal Thai Embassy in Bern from Monday – Friday from 09:00 – 12:00 hours. (except national holidays

Required Documents

1. Original passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months of the day of your departure from Thailand

2. Completed visa application form

3. 2 recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months (3.5 x 4.5 cm.)

4. A copy of travel booking or ticket reservation (from Switzerland to Thailand, and outbound flight from Thailand or from one of our neighbouring countries)

5. A copy of Accommodation Reservation, please provide;

  • In case of staying in a hotel/apartment; a reservation confirmation for at least half of your stay in Thailand with name, address, and contact details of the hotel/apartment
  • In case of staying with a non Thai citizen who owns a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter, a copy of his/her passport, a copy of his/her visa/residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan)/buying contract.
  • In case of staying with a non Thai citizen who rents a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter, a copy of his/her passport, a copy of his/her visa/residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of the rental/leasing agreement.
  • In case of staying with a Thai citizen or Thai spouse; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her Thai ID or passport and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan).

6. A Copy of complete bank statement of past 3 months with minimum balance no less than CHF 1,000 per person at the end of each month

  • A financial guarantor is needed if traveller can not provided mentioned above balance, please submit; a guarantee letter, a copy of identification/passport and residence permit for Switzerland (for Non-Swiss nationals), a copy of complete bank statement of the last 3 months with minimum balance of 2,000 CHF at the end of each month, and (if any) document showing relationship between the applicant e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate.

7. For Non-Swiss nationals, a copy of valid residence permit for Switzerland (the residence permit must be valid until your arrival date in Switzerland)

8. For nationals of other countries except USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan: please provide further documents as shown below

  • Letter of Employment signed by employer or work contract with salary receipt of the past 3 months
  • or business registration for self employed
  • or Confirmation of receiving social fund/benefits for unemployed
  • or Pension Confirmation for retiree
  • or Enrollment confirmation from school/college/university for student

9. Visa Fee of CHF 40 in cash only

10. In case that applicant’s passport shall be sent back by post, an envelope with applicant’s address and CHF 6.30 of stamps are required. The Royal Thai Embassy does not accept any responsibility for any kind of loss or damage from post service.

11.  For Children travelling without Parents or Travelling with children (under 20 years old), please submit further document from our recommendations

(b) Tourist Visa with Multiple Entries

Please kindly note that visa application takes approximately within 5-7 working days after the receipt of completed required documents. Applicant can ONLY personally apply for a visa 3-10 weeks before the travelling date at the counter of Visa Section at Royal Thai Embassy in Bern from Monday – Friday from 09:00 – 12:00 hours. (except national holidaysWe accept both appointments and walk-ins.

Required Documents
1. Original passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months of the
 day of your departure from Thailand
2. For Non-Swiss nationals, a copy of valid residence permit C for Switzerland. Applicant must have permanent residence in Switzerland and the residence permit must be valid until your arrival date in Switzerland
3. Completed visa application form
4. 2 recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months
5. A copy of travel booking or ticket reservation (from Switzerland to Thailand, and outbound flight from Thailand or from one of our neighbouring countries) and evidence of frequent travel to Thailand.
6. Letter of Employment signed by employer / Enrollment Letter from school or university / Pension or Retirement confirmation
7. A copy of complete bank statement of the past 6 months with minimum balance no less than CHF 7,000 per person at the end of each month

  • A financial guarantor is needed if traveller can not provided mentioned above balance, please submit; a guarantee letter, a copy of identification/passport and residence permit for Switzerland (for Non-Swiss nationals), a copy of complete bank statement of the last 6 months with minimum balance of 14,000 CHF at the end of each month, and (if any) document showing relationship between the applicant e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate.

8. A copy of Accommodation Reservation

  • In case of staying in a hotel/apartment; a reservation confirmation for at least half of your stay in Thailand with name, address, and contact details of the hotel/apartment
  • In case of staying with a friend who is a foreigner who has his/her own house in Thailand; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her passport, residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan).
  • In case of staying with a friend who is a foreigner who rents a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her passport, residence/work permit in Thailand, and a rental/buying agreement with a prove of the original house/condo/apartment owner; Thai ID and house register (Ta-bien-baan) or Company registration.
  • In case of staying with a Thai national friend or Thai spouse; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her Thai ID or passport and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan)

9. Visa Fee of CHF 185 in cash only
10. In case that applicant’s passport shall be sent back by post, an envelope with applicant’s address and CHF 6.30 of stamps are required. The Royal Thai Embassy does not accept any responsibility for any kind of loss or damage from post service.

  • Travelers with tourist visa are allowed to apply for an additional extension at the Immigration Bureau for a period up to 30 days.
