Visa Exemption 

TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION OF 30 DAYS IS EXTENED TO 45 DAYS

UNTIL 30 SEPTEMBER 2021

(Permitted period of stay is inclusive of quarantine duration)

In compliance with the new visa exemption regulation issued by the Ministry of Interior dated 26 May 2016, nationals entitled to a 30-days visa exemption (as indicated in the list below) are eligible to enter Thailand without visa through land boarder checkpoints only twice a calendar year. The entering through international airports will not be affected by this regulation.

The implementation of this regulation will start from 31 December 2016. The limitation from this regulation does not apply to Malaysian nationals.

Foreigners who enter Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category and would like to leave and re-enter may only stay for a cumulative duration, which does not exceed 90 days and is within a 6-month period from the date of first entry. (Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon the return to residence country).

Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must provide proof of adequate funding for the duration of stay in Thailand at the port of entry (i.e., traveller’s cheque or cash equivalent to 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family), proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date. Otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained.

Please note that Tourist Visa Exemption only applies to foreigners holding passports issued by the countries listed below. Other travel documents for foreigners issued by these countries are not acceptable.

 

Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival to Thailand

  Remarks:

     - Travelers who enter Thailand under the tourist visa exemption category are allowed to apply for an additional extension at the Immigration Bureau for a period up to 30 days.

   - Temporary passport / provisional passport / emergency passport of nationals who exempted for Tourist Visa Scheme for period of 30 days s accepted by the Immigration Bureau in Thailand. However the passport must has validity not less than 6 months upon the return to residence country.

   - National with Bilateral Agreement can only enter Thailand with ordinary passport and the passport must has validity not less than 6 months upon the return to residence country.

Applicants can ONLY apply in person for a visa 3-5 weeks before your traveling date from Monday – Friday from 09:00 – 12:00 hours. (except our national holidays) and applicants have to make an online appointment at https://thaiembassy.ch/Appointment in order to submit your visa application at the counter of Visa Section, Royal Thai Embassy in Bern
Please kindly note that visa application takes approximately 5-7 working days after the receipt of completed required documents.
 

(a) Tourist Visa with Single Entry

Required Documents

1. Original passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months of the day of your departure from Thailand

2. Completed visa application form

3. 2 recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months (3.5 x 4.5 cm.)

4. A copy of Accommodation Reservation (after quarantine), please provide;

  • In case of staying in a hotel/apartment; a reservation confirmation for at least half of your stay in Thailand with name, address, and contact details of the hotel/apartment
  • In case of staying with a non Thai citizen who owns a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter, a copy of his/her passport, a copy of his/her visa/residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan)/buying contract.
  • In case of staying with a non Thai citizen who rents a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter, a copy of his/her passport, a copy of his/her visa/residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of the rental/leasing agreement.
  • In case of staying with a Thai citizen or Thai spouse; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her Thai ID or passport and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan).

5.  A Copy of complete bank statement from private or regular saving account (in Switzerland or Thailand) in the past 3 months showing a balance at the end of each month equal to no less than 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

  • A financial guarantor is needed if traveller can not provided mentioned above balance. Only immediate family member (legal parents, legal children and legal spouse) can be a financial guarantor for traveler.  Please submit; a guarantee letter, a copy of identification/passport and residence permit for Switzerland (for Non-Swiss nationals), a copy of complete bank statement from private or regular saving account (in Switzerland or in Thailand) in the past 3 months with minimum balance of 80,000 THB at the end of each month, and (if any) document showing relationship between the applicant e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate.

6. For Non-Swiss nationals, a copy of valid residence permit for Switzerland (the residence permit must be valid until your arrival date in Switzerland)

7. For nationals of other countries except USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan: please provide further documents as shown below

  • Letter of Employment signed by employer or work contract with salary receipt of the past 3 months
  • or business registration for self employed
  • or Confirmation of receiving social fund/benefits for unemployed
  • or Pension Confirmation for retiree
  • or Enrollment confirmation from school/college/university for student

8. Visa Fee of 40 CHF in cash only

9. In case that applicant’s passport shall be sent back by post, an envelope with applicant’s address and CHF 6.30 of stamps are required. The Royal Thai Embassy does not accept any responsibility for any kind of loss or damage from post service.

10.  For Children travelling without Parents or Travelling with children (under 20 years old), please submit further document from our recommendations

(b) Special Tourist Visa with Single Entry

Applicants from Switzerland are eligible to apply for STV visa from 14 December 2020.

Applicants must hold an ordinary passport of Switzerland or must have permanent residence in Switzerland (Permit C)

Please kindly note that:

Validity: 90 Days

Visa Fee: CHF 80

 

Required Documents

1.  An Original passport must be valid not less than 12 months of the day of your travel to Thailand, with two (2) copies

2.  Two (2) completed visa application form

3.  Four (4) recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months

4.  Two (2) copies of medical certificate from licenced doctor; Applicants must have no forbidden diseases according to the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535) which include Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction and third stage of Syphilis. The certificate must not be valid more than 3 months.

5.  Two (2) copies of certificate of criminal record clearance from country of permanent residence. The certificate must be valid not less than 3 months.

6.  Two (2) copies of valid medical/health insurance certificate from participating insurance companies available on this link ONLY and indicating that: 

     6.1 cover at least 90 days (from your arrival date) or the whole period of stay in Thailand

     6.2 have medical benefit in Thailand for outpatient must not be less than 40,000 Baht

     6.3 have medical benefit in Thailand for inpatient must not be less than 400,000 Baht.

     6.4 cover all medical expenditures including COVID-19

     6.5 worth at least or more than USD 100,000

7.  Accommodation reservation (after quarantine):

Applicants must submit accommodation document as follow ONLY. 

Letter of invitation to stay at a place of friend/family member will NOT be accepted for this type of visa.

       (a) In case the applicant/ immediate family member owns a condominium, please submit

            -  Confirmation of applicant/ immediate family member’s complete property ownership

            -  Invitation letter

            -  Copy of the owner passport or Thai ID

            -  A copy of evidence of the family relationship between the owner and the applicant e.g. birth certificate, family book, marriage certificate

            -  No financial/ bank statement required.

       

        (b) In case of staying in a hotel, please submit two (2) copies of booking confirmation at least for one month and payment receipt with name, address, contact details and tax ID number of the hotel (please kindly note that we do not accept cash sale receipt) 

      

        (c) In case of staying in a rental condominium/ house, please submit two (2) copies of booking confirmation at least for one month and payment receipt with name, address, contact details and tax ID number of the owner (please kindly note that we do not accept cash sale receipt)

 

        (d) In case the applicant is buying or leasing a condominium, please submit two (2) copies of documents stating that applicant has already paid at least 2 instalments

 

8.  A Copy of complete bank statement from private or regular saving account (in Switzerland or Thailand) in the past 3 months showing a balance at the end of each month equal to no less than 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

     

Spouse and Children:

           Spouse and children (age not over 20 years old) of the principle applicant can also apply for the STV visa by submitting the following documents.

1. An Original passport must be valid not less than 12 months of the day of your travel to Thailand, with two (2) copies

2. Two (2) Completed visa application form

3. Four (4) recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months

        (b) In case of staying in a hotel, please submit

         - Two (2) copies of booking confirmation at least for one month (after 14 days quarantine) and payment receipt with name, address, contact details and tax ID number of the hotel (please kindly note that we do not accep cash sale receipt)

           (Remarks*: If the principle applicant is the financial supporter, please kindly submit financial guarantor confirmation. Sample of financial guarantor confirmation, click here.)

       (c) In case of staying in a rental condominium/ house, please submit

         - Two (2) copies of booking confirmation at least for one month and payment receipt with name, address, contact details and tax ID number of the owner (please kindly note that we do not accep cash sale receipt)

        (d) In case the applicant is buying or leasing a condominium, please submit

          - Two (2) copies of documents stating that applicant has already paid at least 2 instalments

8.  A Copy of complete bank statement from private or regular saving account (in Switzerland or Thailand) in the past 3 months showing a balance at the end of each month equal to no less than 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

(c) Tourist Visa with Multiple Entries

* METV holders are not currently eligible to enter Thailand under Thailand's COVID-19 measures

Required Documents

1. Original passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months of the day of your departure from Thailand
2. For Non-Swiss nationals, a copy of valid residence permit C for Switzerland. Applicant must have permanent residence in Switzerland and the residence permit must be valid until your arrival date in Switzerland
3. Completed visa application form
4. 2 recent passport-sized photographs taken within the past 6 months
5. A copy of travel booking or ticket reservation (from Switzerland to Thailand, and outbound flight from Thailand or from one of our neighbouring countries) and evidence of frequent travel to Thailand.
6. Letter of Employment signed by employer / Enrollment Letter from school or university / Pension or Retirement confirmation
7. A copy of complete bank statement of the past 6 months with minimum balance no less than CHF 7,000 per person at the end of each month

  • A financial guarantor is needed if traveller can not provided mentioned above balance, please submit; a guarantee letter, a copy of identification/passport and residence permit for Switzerland (for Non-Swiss nationals), a copy of complete bank statement of the last 6 months with minimum balance of 14,000 CHF at the end of each month, and (if any) document showing relationship between the applicant e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate.

8. A copy of Accommodation Reservation

  • In case of staying in a hotel/apartment; a reservation confirmation for at least half of your stay in Thailand with name, address, and contact details of the hotel/apartment
  • In case of staying with a friend who is a foreigner who has his/her own house in Thailand; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her passport, residence/work permit in Thailand, and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan).
  • In case of staying with a friend who is a foreigner who rents a house/condo/apartment; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her passport, residence/work permit in Thailand, and a rental/buying agreement with a prove of the original house/condo/apartment owner; Thai ID and house register (Ta-bien-baan) or Company registration.
  • In case of staying with a Thai national friend or Thai spouse; an invitation letter with a copy of his/her Thai ID or passport and a copy of house register (Ta-bien-baan)

9. Visa Fee of CHF 185 in cash only
